Dual band screen
EN
This is the screen for dual band operation, where MAIN and SUB frequencies are displayed above and below. The important receiver settings are shown for the MAIN side and for the SUB side respectively.
The single band screen is the screen for single band operation where only the MAIN or SUB frequency is displayed. Each time you press the SUB DIAL knob, it switches between MAIN and SUB.
EN
On the dual band screen the receiver settings at the bottom of the display are duplicated for the two sides, so you can confirm at a glance which side has ATT, IPO, DNF or AGC engaged. Remember that the DSP interference removal functions of Chapter 15 are also set independently for each side.
A powerful capability of the FTX-1 is its flexibility in Split Frequency operation using the MAIN-side and SUB-side frequency registers. This makes the FTX-1 especially useful for high-level DX-peditions. The Split operation capability is very advanced and easy to use.
Setup Procedure
EN
Set the MAIN-side VFO frequency to the desired receive frequency.
Press and hold the [SPLIT] key, and then set the SUB-side VFO frequency to the desired transmit frequency.
During Split operation, the MAIN-side VFO register will be used for reception, while the SUB-side VFO register will be used for transmission.
Press and hold the [SPLIT] key again to cancel Split operation.
Listening on the transmit frequency
EN
During split operation, touch [TXW] after pressing and holding the [FUNC] knob, to receive the transmit frequency; press the [FUNC] knob to return.
[TXW] is one of the items on the [FUNC] knob function list, described as: during split operation, touch [TXW] to listen on the transmitter frequency.
(1) The most common mistake is assuming you are split as soon as you have set the SUB frequency — you must press and hold the [SPLIT] key to enter split state; merely tuning SUB to the target frequency does not change the transmit/receive relationship. (2) Always listen on the transmit frequency with [TXW] before calling: a DX station's listening window is often very narrow, and transmitting blindly when someone is already using it, or when a station is "policing" the frequency, only causes mutual interference. (3) Your transmit frequency must remain inside the band limits of your licence — a published offset such as "up 5" must never push you outside the band. (4) On the dual band screen the receiver settings at the bottom are shown separately for MAIN and SUB; when adjusting ATT / IPO / AGC, confirm that you are adjusting the receiving side (MAIN). DSP settings on the transmit side do not affect what you hear. (5) To leave split, press and hold the [SPLIT] key again; simply returning SUB to the same frequency as MAIN does not exit split, and the radio will still transmit on the SUB register.
若需要长期保存一对收发频率,应使用 Split Memory(把两个不同的频率——一个接收、一个发射——注册到同一个存储信道),或 HOME 信道。Split is a temporary state based on the two MAIN / SUB VFO registers; it is not retained semi-permanently after power-off or a band change, so always re-confirm the receive and transmit frequencies before each contact. If you need to keep a transmit/receive pair for the long term, use Split Memory — registering two different frequencies, one for receive and another for transmit, to a single memory channel — or the HOME channel.
