⚠

All these radios may transmit only with a valid licence, on authorised bands, per local law. Before buying, learn your local amateur-radio access and exam requirements.
First radio — which?
For plain VHF/UHF analogue, the FT-65R is easiest; tight budget → UV-5R.
Must APRS mean FT-70DR?
It is the most direct APRS path covered here; you can also use an external TNC + any FM radio (see FT-65R APRS page).
UV-5R or UV-K5?
Want easy → UV-5R; want flashing / spectrum / SSB → UV-K5.
